Safety First! How to use Candles Safely

Candles have been used for centuries to create a warm and inviting ambiance. The flickering flame can transform any space into a cosy retreat, perfect for relaxation and unwinding. However, it's essential to prioritize safety when using candles to prevent accidents and ensure a worry-free experience. In this blog, we'll explore some crucial tips and guidelines to help you enjoy the beauty of candles while keeping safety at the forefront.

Never Leave Unattended: One of the cardinal rules of candle safety is to never leave a lit candle unattended. Even a momentary distraction can lead to a potential fire hazard. Always extinguish candles before leaving the room or going to sleep. Remember, safety should always be your top priority.

Keep a Clear Space: Ensure there is a significant distance between a lit candle and any flammable objects or materials. Keep at least one foot of space around the candle, and never place it near curtains, bedding, books, or other potentially combustible items.

Use Candle Holders: Always place your candles in stable and heat-resistant candle holders. This will prevent them from tipping over and catching surrounding objects on fire. Ensure that the candle holder is appropriate for the size and shape of the candle to prevent accidents.

Extinguish Properly: When it's time to extinguish a candle, avoid blowing it out, as this can cause sparks or hot wax to scatter. Instead, use a candle snuffer or carefully use a long, non-flammable object to smother the flame gently. This will minimize the risk of accidental burns or fire.

Avoid Drafty Areas: Avoid placing candles in drafty areas, as this can cause the flame to flicker and increase the risk of fire. The movement of air can also blow lightweight objects into the flame, leading to potential hazards. Place candles on sturdy surfaces away from open windows, fans, or vents.

Trim Candle Wicks: Trim the wick of your candle to about ¼ inch before lighting it. Long or crooked wicks can result in uneven burning, excessive smoke, or potential flaring. By keeping the wick short, you can maintain a steady and controlled flame.

Keep Out of Reach: Ensure that candles are placed well out of the reach of children and pets. Curious little hands or playful paws can accidentally knock over candles or come into contact with the hot wax or flame, causing injuries. Always practice caution and keep candles in secure areas.
